A little word from our founder

Mark van der Aa: ‘Fabraa is the brand developed by Textaafoam, initiated with the clear objective to put the issue of sustainability high on the agenda. We see that in the upholstery fabric industry, changes are happening somewhat slower as compared to other industries, and we want to be at the forefront of this movement, learning about, developing and offering more sustainable products.’

In the last years, the focus in almost all industries has shifted towards understanding what impact the production of products has on people and planet,
and in how far negative effects can be avoided during different stages in the supply chain.

Acting in a truly sustainable fashion, we want to ensure that access to sustainably sourced products is not just for the few, but for the many. Only if a
large part of society can participate in purchasing more sustainable products will we see a clear change and relevant effects. That is why we aim to find
a pragmatic middle ground, offering increasingly sustainable products at a reasonable price point.

We will continue to offer high-quality fabrics, just as our customers have come to appreciate in the many years of collaboration with us. In addition, we
will work towards using more sustainable raw material alternatives, improve ways of production and understand and improve the working conditions of
workers throughout our supply chains. Our customers, both direct and indirect, can be assured that we do not see this as a trade-off. The quality of our
products will not be jeopardized in any way, but instead we will offer the added benefit of knowing that we pay close attention to the “What” of our fabric
production.

Conventional upholstery fabrics are made from virgin material, very often from virgin synthetic fibers. The production of these fibers requires high
inputs and outputs of raw materials, energy, water and CO2. The usage of these can be reduced by using recycled material, i.e. material made from
products that are already there. For some Fabraa fabrics, the focus is on the use of synthetic fibers made from recycled PET bottles. While it does
require input and creates output to make PET bottles into usable material for fabric production, this is very strongly reduced as compared to input and
output connected to processing virgin material.

We are at a starting point. We know we cannot change the world on our own, and not in one day. That is why we have a clear step-by-step plan that
includes collaborating with experts in their fields and other stakeholders. We continuously learn, gathering insights and information, and learn more
each day.

We have a no-nonsense approach and want to work in a way that is truly sustainable, in a way that doesn’t just suggest a “green” business approach, but
that really delivers increasingly sustainable products to our customers.
