This is done through external partners that conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) of our fabrics. LCA is a method used to evaluate the environmental impact of a product or process throughout its entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to waste management. FABRAA measures the Cradle to Gate principle of its fabrics, allowing us to precisely determine the impact of our fabrics when they leave our premises.

There are two different approaches to conducting an LCA. One way is to calculate the average market data from a database. The advantage of this approach is its ease of application on a large scale and its lower labor intensity. However, this method provides less precise results. FABRAA uses the data provided by our suppliers for our upholstery fabrics. The advantage is that it closely reflects reality. The disadvantage is that we rely on what the supplier provides us.
Vague claims are simply not enough. Customers deserve to know the full story of textiles. However, sustainability calculations and reporting requireexpertise and investment. The independent partner that assists us in conducting LCAs is bAwear. Their methodology was developed in collaboration with SimaPro and is based on over 35 years of textile expertise. The goal of this approach is to create an objective and dedicated impact calculation method for the textile industry.
To achieve this objective, they use relevant data on fibers, water consumption, energy consumption, climate impact, chemical usage, and land use. These data are derived from credible sources, such as scientific research and external LCA databases.
The model covers all processes in the supply chain, from the origin of the material to the final packaging and transportation. It includes all steps, such as spinning, weaving/knitting, finishing, and garment production. Through this comprehensive approach, they can measure and report the complete environmental impact of textile products.
